The largest and most magnificent of Seoul's Five Grand Palaces, Gyeongbokgung was the main royal palace of the Joseon dynasty for over 500 years.
Introduction
Built in 1395, Gyeongbokgung Palace served as the political and cultural center of the Joseon Kingdom. The vast 410,000m² complex includes Geunjeongjeon (the throne hall), Gyeonghoeru Pavilion (a royal banquet hall on a lake), and Hyangwonjeong (a garden pavilion). Visitors can watch the daily Changing of the Royal Guard ceremony at Gwanghwamun Gate, rent traditional Hanbok to enter free, and access the National Folk Museum and National Palace Museum of Korea within the grounds.
