Hallasan (1,950m) is South Korea's highest peak and a dormant shield volcano at the heart of Jeju Island — a UNESCO triple-crown natural heritage site.
Introduction
Hallasan National Park is Jeju Island’s most iconic natural landmark, designated a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site, Biosphere Reserve, and Global Geopark. The dormant volcano rises 1,950m above sea level and is surrounded by dense forest, alpine meadows, and a crater lake (Baekrokdam) accessible via the Seongpanak and Gwaneumsa trails. Six trails of varying difficulty wind through the park; the two summit trails require early starts due to strict cut-off times.
Highlights
- UNESCO World Heritage triple designation
- Baekrokdam crater lake at the summit
- Royal azalea blooms (April–May)
- Rare Jeju deer and endemic flora
- Six hiking trails for all fitness levels
