Gamcheon Culture Village: Busan's Vibrant Hillside Art Neighborhood

감천문화마을

Introduction

A cascading hillside of pastel-colored houses, murals, art installations, and indie cafes — Gamcheon is Busan's most photographed neighborhood.

Gamcheon Culture Village (감천문화마을) was originally a tightly packed settlement of Korean War refugees in the 1950s. Since a 2009 public art project transformed the neighborhood with colorful murals, sculptures, and galleries, Gamcheon has become one of Korea’s most beloved cultural attractions — often compared to Peru’s Machu Picchu for its dramatic hillside density. The village retains a real, living community, adding authenticity to its artistic character. Visitors follow a self-guided trail map past hundreds of murals and the iconic ‘Little Prince’ viewpoint.

  • Korea's most colorful hillside neighborhood
  • 100+ murals and outdoor art installations
